Michelle hunted a tripod overlooking a huge field this evening, about 30 minutes before dark hogs started passing through. She shot a 120 black boar first at about 60 yards and minutes later shot a 250 pound spotted boar at about 90 yards, both with a .243 !

Cut her loose for a while and she's liable to clear out all the hogs in Texas. She must be a shooter for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Give her a medal, buy her another box of bullets and send her out again.

Thanks, Glenn!
How did the 243 perform on such big hogs? (Duh - pretty obvious, they look mighty dead - just wondering about bullet used, penetration, exit wound if any, etc.)
That 243 looks like a death ray in y'alls hands! Keep hammering those hogs!!
Thanks for the pics and story.

What is the limit on those things? Do you buy tags or can you shoot as many as you like? Up to 6 a day?

Great post Glenn...Again ....
Wade, Hogs are vermin here in Texas....The limit has more to do with the amount of ammo that you have, than anything else ...All you need is a hunting licence.... Bart

the .243 works great for us,but we get lots of practice. It is not recomended for all, shot placement is the key as with any round. the smaller hog was quartering towards her,she hit it behind the shoulder it exited far back in the ribs. The big hog was facing her,she shot it between the shoulder and the neck,no exit! we were using Remington 100 gr.core lokt. no limit on hogs. we have taken 49 since january.

Guess, understanding I know NOTHING about hog hunting I have a friend that is headed to Texas to go hunting. I guess hogs, deer and what ever is on the menu. He was talking about hogs coming into the deer feeders and was looking for a rifle that you could shoot a hog and not being so loud that the others got scared off and supposedly the thought is that you can just keep on shooting. My question is can that happen? And what caliber would a person use? He was thinking 22 Hornet. Not sure of that my self but I said I would ask around for him. What are your thoughts and what would you recommend? Also he is left handed so as far as I can tell on the smaller calibers he's screwed.

hogs are funny sometimes you can shoot one and just keep shooting. I guess it depends on wether or not they have been shot at before! if they haven't they have no way of knowing what gunfire is unless you miss and hit close to them, then they might scatter. We usually shoot one and keep hunting in most cases it works. he needs to use whatever he plans to use on deer, but shot placement is crucial! I prefer neck or head shots but they are not for everyone!
