I looked at a few RAR's yesterday at Sportsmans Warehouse. They are not as cheaply built as I had assumed ,but the magazine does look frail. What is the life expectancy of the Magazines and what has been everyone's experience with them. Mostly looking a the creedmore predator and maybe a .223.

The rifles are very well built and quite accurate. The mags have a feeding issue that we've discussed here several times. I don't know what kind of life expectancy they have. If you have a mag problem, Ruger will gladly send you a new one with just a phone call. I got 2 them plus the original before I got one that really works. The bad ones can be repaired by turning the spring 1 extra turn. There's a thread on here somewhere about how to do it. found it: REPAIRING MAGS

Thank you for the information. I am pretty hard on stuff and them magazines look like something I could tear up fairly fast. I am not looking to get a cheap, single shot rifle.

One thing I do, is I load them like any other mag.- meaning I push the round down while sliding it back, under the feed lips, instead of snapping each round straight down through the feed lips. To me this puts less unnecessary strain/wear on the plastic. When the gun feeds, it does not snap the cartridges up through the lips, so why do that when loading?

Some of the 1st run of 223's had feed lips a little too close and resulted in some feeding issues. Ruger replaced mine quickly with one that worked. The 2 spares work fine too. As far as I know the issue has been corrected and there are no problems with recent production guns.
None of the 308's I've owned or shot had any issues at all.

They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

I have RAR-Predators in 204, 223, 22-250, 243, 6.5 Creed, and 260. The magazine all work and while I don't, in general, particularly care for detachable magazines, these Ruger units seem to work as well as any and they don't protrude below the bottom of the stock, so they aren't as intrusive as some.

I bought a 223 RAR and the mag did not feed the last round. After tinkering with it according to some of the repair threads it would feed occasionally. I concluded that in addition to the feed lips needing to be slightly wider but also the follower needed to be curved rather than almost straight. Sure enough when I got a new one the follower was almost a "C" shape and worked perfectly. The new one has a "+" just to one side of the beginning of the feed lips.
