So, after lurking here for a while I finally got my hands on what I beleive to be a 99R .300 Savage circa 1952 (I think). I will post the serial number later (not at home now) and the LBC is not readable (see, I've picked up some of the tricks). It is in nice shape but the rear sight is missing and the pistol grip cap is cracked. Any sources for these parts?
Thanks,
Peter

If you are looking for function rather than originality Gun Parts Corp (Numrich) has a rear sight from a later model that will work. I got one for my '52 EG,less than $20 IIRC.

I have an extra rear sight from a 1954 99EG lying around. You can have it for $20 shipped is you want it. Just send me a PM if you are interested.
Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else.

" LBC looks like 1C"
C would be 1951. Are you sure the C is not a D? My EG #625xxx has a definite D LBC. Unless your 648xxx got put aside at the factory , with Savage anything is possible.

[color:"brown"]Peter R......
Try using a magnifying glass on your LBC.
Your rifle's serial number falls right in with those Model 99s made in 1952. The LBC would be a "D" if your's was a '52 model. See excerpt from my LBC chart below:
D= 1952: 621686(3D), 625xxx(?D), 6274xx, 636571, 638145(3D), 643122, 655689(19?), 6558xx, 6693xx, 6726xx,
