Picked up a Canik TP9SA a few months ago. I must say, what a Great pistol. ISO9001 rated straight shooting out of the box easy to keep on target during rapid shooting. All with a great price. Any other thoughts?

"Viking" I don't mean to talk down Glock, but Canik is giving them a run for their money. All guns have their place.

I wouldn't exactly be selling my Glock just yet. The TP9SA is a FAIL.

If you want a Canik, then buy the TP9, not the TP9SA

The TP9SA has a "feature" that's very disconcerting; the decocker. Now when it was the DA TP9 that feature made sense, it would de-cock to a DA trigger pull. But the SA version is single action, so the decocker actually DEACTIVATES the trigger. The decocker is fairly prominent and I'm sure you could train to not accidentally activate it, but why should you have to? That "feature" has no business being on a single action defensive pistol...FAIL.

I agree I don't like the decocker on the TP9SA. But Canik just released the TP9SF, which is the same trigger system as the SA, without the decocker. I might pick one up for [bleep] and grins just to see what all the hype is about.

Now that makes sense; I hope it turns out to be a good gun.

The decocker has nothing to do with the safety or the actin of the pistol. I have the TP9SA. When the pistol is loaded and decocked it only takes small movement of sliding the actin back maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 and thou back in action. You don't even throw a round out. Thou Can accomplish this by bringing the pistol to your weak hand for a split second as you unholster your weapon. This weapon meets all ISO9001 specs.

ISO9001 isn't a specification. It merely means your company has written procedures for how you manufacture your product, and you have a quality improvement program for your company. It's no guarantee that you follow that QI program for any given product. It has nothing to do with whether the gun is a good design or not; just that you have one at your company. ISO knows nothing about guns, they certainly don't set specs for guns (or any other product).

And the decocker IS a decocker that deactivates the trigger. The fact it only takes 1/8" doesn't change that fact; just means it's a short reset. It's a dumb thing to have on a defensive pistol and IMO a large button on the top of the slide that deacivates the fire control group is a critical design flaw. Certainly you can train around this and make the system work, that's your prerogative.

ISO didn't save them from making a critical error on the pistol. They did so because they took the lazy way out because they wanted to use the same slide as their DA pistol. But since they adhered to their written manufacturing processes that they themselves setup and followed their own internal Quality Improvement program, Its allISO certified.

Canik is a very promising company and that particular line of pistols shows great promise. But the SA version was hastially designed and they screwed up and called it a "feature". I'm impressed with the TP pistols, and their CZ clones are made very well also.

The SA with it's really great trigger would be a very good inexpensive choice for a competition pistol, but because of that one flaw, it's not something I would ever recommend as a defensive pistol. The other guns in the line, I would recommend; just not that one.
