A CM surely will eat less barrel steel than a 6.5-284.

He will only do a saum on the magnum rifle they offer. I've asked...

If you handload, I'd do a .284 Winchester on a 20b. If not, a .308 20b.

I've had a Model 20 in .308 with a #1 22" stainless barrel. I don't hunt nearly as much as many of the people on this forum, but I have taken a couple of Colorado bulls with this rifle. It's accurate and a pleasure to carry. I think it weighs about six pounds or maybe a little less, complete with a 6x36mm Leupold. Recoil is quite manageable.

That's too "standard." I know.... I'm over 60. Dogger asked a simple question. I gave him a simple answer. No qualifiers,n o caveats. Straight up......haha! Simple is good,it's not rocket science after all.

I have a 257Wby and a 270wby NULA. Both are nail drivers, and the 270wby is likely the most accurate hunting rifle I will ever own.

The Model 20 in .284 Win is the "classic" NULA which gets the most out of the lightest model. I have had one for a decade, and have ordered a Model 24 in .338-06 to cover the larger end of the game spectrum a little better.

I'll run for cover as soon as I hit the submit button, but I'd choose the 30.06.

While I like modern light SS rifles the NULA has a crude push feed bolt face and overall the rifles are homely. Here is their bolt NULA rifle These days the Kimber Montana's are good.

I'm sorry I told you yesterday that just when I think you can't outdo your own stupid, you do. I should have saved that for today.

JCMCUBIC did me the distinct favor of selling me a 30/06 last year - #2, 24", ceracoat. The recoil is nothing to fuss about, excellent accuracy, great to tote. If I had to replace it, I would order the exact same rifle tomorrow from Melvin

If it were me, and elk or spot and stalk black bear were a regular possibility, I'd go with a 24 in '06 or .270 for that little bit extra. Otherwise, a short-action 7-08 or .308, possibly the CM or .260.
At 64 (how did that happen!) one good rifle should be enough for my needs, but it's clearly not enough just yet for my itchy fingers.
What fresh Hell is this?

If I was doing a Model 24 NULA that one had everything exactly right and I'd copy it exactly. I'd probably go .308 now just because (for me) everything in the lower-48 is going to be an elk or two, a this/that odd/end on rare occasions....and a whole lotta deer.

model and chambering, makes the most sense for one rifle to hunt big game everything, anywhere, in the lower 48 for a man entering his 60s?
7mm-08, .308W.
