Hello Everyone, I am really excited about this rifle I just picked up and was hoping some of our Weatherby experts could give me some information about it. I have not had a lot of luck researching it. This rifle seems to be a 240 WBY, factory maple stocked Mark V that was made in West Germany. The serial number is P233XX. The website below states it was made somewhere around 1967-1968. http://www.weatherbyrifler.com/WbySerials.htmDid Weatherby have a custom shop when they were manufacturing rifles in W. Germany? If so, could this rifle come out of their custom shop? I would greatly appreciate any information you all could give me. Thanks!

The best place to ask might be Weatherby itself. They may even be able to identify the original owner. There's a collector group online as well.
That's an interesting optics setup. B&L and Buehler I presume?
Very nice rig in every way. Bet you paid dearly for it! That stock is stunning, and I don't even like Weatherbys all that much.
What fresh Hell is this?

I'm going by memory here, but I was under the impression that the custom shop Mark V's were produced (or at least finished) in the US- I could be wrong, though!

Try the site listed below. I bought an older (1971) left hand Mark V .257 Lazermark a couple years ago. It seems to be an odd combination. The gun was built in W. Germany, but the origin of the LH Lazermark stock is uncertain. It's likely that it was upgraded here. Not that it really matters, I was just curious. Have you checked the twist? Mine is 1:12, which won't stabilize some of the newer bullets. It really likes the partitions and interlocks though. Beautiful rifle by the way. http://www.weatherbycollectors.com/

Pappy, you are spot on about the optics. The scope is a B%L Balvar 2.5-8 and the mounts are Buehler Micro-Dials. Bama, I have not checked the twist rate yet. I just picked the rifle up and can't wait until the weekend to put a few rounds through her. Thanks for the kind words, and I'll try to post on http://www.weatherbycollectors.com/, and I'll try to get in touch with Weatherby today.

I just got off the phone with Weatherby and the gentleman I talked to suggested I order an Authentication Letter from them.
I'll go ahead and do that, but am still interested in what others may know about these rifles.
Thanks!

All custom rifles were indeed finished at South Gate. Yours appears to be indeed a custom, albeit a simple one which in my view looks rather nice. Beautiful piece.
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”
