Here are the pics from the mountain goat I got in September. Shot was 355 yards with a 7-08 Ackley using 139 Interlocks. He has 10" horns and was 10 1/2 years old. The meat has excellent flavor, but is a little chewy. I think I'll get it made into sausages.

....For a critter that size to eek out a living, and gather the groceries to amble around those slopes,he HAS TO BE TOUGH! What a beautiful animal, and a regal looking one to my eye. Congratulations...I've eaten that goats tamer cousins in Mexico, and found goat to be as delicious a meat as any i've ever tasted...

Yup, Beautiful British Columbia. It's a hunters and fisherman's paradise, but don't tell everyone <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
olhippie, Those goats amaze me. I cannot imagine the winter they put in! This old goat survived 10 of them.

Moose, Congrats on a great animal in rugged terrain! When you get time, tell us more about the hunt, the shot and your equipment.

Bizymocha here is the story, I was on a 10 day hunt for Stone's sheep with a good freind and hunting partner. I saw some rams but none that were legal. On the second to last day I decided to go for the consolation prize and shoot this billy. I had seen the billy a couple days earlier and knew he was good. It was late in the day when I threw in the towel on holding out for a ram and decided to try for this goat. I stalked to 450 yards and ran out of cover. I could of snuck closer but it would have required a round about route and I didn't have time before dark. He was in the bottom of the basin feeding so my only chance was to walk straight for him and see how close I could get. My self imposed limit was a 350 yard shot. As I started walking towards him he spotted me and started to climb up the talis slopes towards the rock cliffs, stopping every few step to look at me. After closing about 150 yards I ranged the distance at 355 yards. I decided to shoot from there as he was closing in on the safety of the rock cliffs. He was standing quarterin towards me. My rifle forend was resting on my bins (caps on) and my left fist was under the butt. I had practiced shooting up to 400 yards in field positions and felt confident I could make the shot. Boom!.............thawack! (that sweet sound of lead hitting flesh). He turned and started to climb with a broken front leg, boom.....dust in the rocks behind him...I forgot to lead him & rushed the shot. Concentrate....Boom.....thawack...hit him in the hip as he was going striaght away, he fell down.....he got back up but was in rough shape and started hobbiling back down the slope almost towards me and I could see the fur on his shoulder/chest turning red from the first shot....Boom.....thawack! The 139 Interlock landed in his brisket and he was down for good. When we got him caped and quatered it was 30 min into the darkness. We set up camp about 200 yards away and slept lightly since we had see grizz in the area too. The next mourning we deboned the meat, of which there was a lot on this guy, and started the hike out.
I have been using a Tarn 2 tent from Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) since 1999 - this was its 4th mountain hunt. I used an internal frame 70 litre pack from MEC as well that retails for $109 Can. It worked fine for me. It wasn't real comfy on the pack out, but that might of had more to do with the 95lb payload. My rifle is a re-barreled Rem 600 with a VX-II 3-9. The stock was stripped and given a thick coat of G2 epoxy. I hogged out as much wood from under the recoil pads as I dared. Gotta go, lunchbreak is over!
