Redcliff, on edge of Medicine Hat. Was curious if you were in the "Hat".

Depends on the show for me. You can really tell he is new to hunting. I assume he will get better as he get more hunts under him. I didn't like the caribou incident everyone is talking about or the musk ox episode. I didn't mind the walrus show or the Newfoundland sea duck. I only have cable so my hunting shows are VERY limited.

I do find some of his mistakes informative like the fly in hunt, he was on were his scope was damaged and he was limited to bow hunting only. That was an excellent reminder that if you are going to be $1,000s of dollars for a once in a life time hunt to bring a back up rifle.

Trevor, I second that!! We learned long ago to always have a back-up rifle on hand that was sighted in and we all had shot before because you never know what might happen. I thought that was really amaturish of him and the chance he had at a bull could have been taken with a shotgun and slugs. But he only had his bow. Curious that he would think to bring the bow but no back-up gun after all the preparation the trip would entail. I too find him annoying. The Newfoundland Sportsman guys are true goofballs!!!!!!!Chris.

Since it's the only hunting show available with my cable package, "Canada in the Rough" is OK with me.

Having said that, the episode in which Pigeon's riflescope was damaged in transit had me scratching my head. Here's a guy who just paid big bucks for a fly-in moose hunt, and he brings no back-up. Given that he shoots a Sako 75, he could have had a second scope set up in detachable rings already zeroed. Or given the fact that he can afford a Sako and Zeiss [?] optics, he could simply have brought along a $400 Savage 111F .30-06 with a $100 Bushnell scope. Not fancy maybe, but cheap insurance on an expensive hunt. Why, I wonder, did the outfitter not loan the guy a rifle? Were they afraid that he would drop it out of the boat?

Let that be a lesson to us. A two-gun case holds--two guns!

He doesnt pay for his rifles and optics himself. He is sponsored and can only shoot sponsored products. Probably the same reason he did not use a loaner rifle on the show.

Hunting shows are all about advertisements, endorsements, etc.....so although he should have had a second firearm as a backup, it would be a Sako product more than likely. Either way...he had a backup....his bow.....

I would like to see more Canadian hunting programs here - the fly-in, primitive camping type involving sheep, moose, grizzley, etc.
I don't want to offend any needlessly but I really tire of seeing whitetail "hunts" out of a box in front of a feeder on a food plot. Good grief. As much as I like whitetails, treestand hunts for the same has reached the saturation point for my tastes. And I don't mean Coues or wilderness (Alberta or Sask.) hunts.
