Assuming your AR has at least a 1 in 8" twist, what is your favorite bullet for: varmints (two or four legged) target shooting deer-sized game

69/77 gr SMK, TMK, NCC for #1 & 2
62 gr Barnes TSX/TAC for purely hunting purposes; also works for #1 & 2 as may be necessary.

varmints = 77gr NCC
target shooting = 55gr NBT
deer sized game = 62 TSX
but these days I've been shooting 55 NBT's at everything cause I got a few of them on sale...

The Hornady 75gr BTHP is a great all-around bullet. Good for defense, good on game, and great at distance. Due to the design, they can be a bit temperamental but work great once you find that sweet spot.
If you want different bullets for each purpose stated:
55gr VMAX for varmints 77gr SMK for targets 62gr Barnes TSX for medium sized game

I have to be guilty of saying whatever is in the gun...
I don't have anything under 68/69 except 52 and 62 tst/ttsx.
Problem is often I"m not expecting to shoot a deer or pig or such... Not specifically hunting, something pops out driving to work or such.
That being said, the most things I shoot end up with a 75 bthp hornady bullet generally and they have never failed me. Its what I carry in the mag day in and day out in the car.
Targets... been so long... 68-90 grain match bullets... bthp, amax, vld...

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

77 TMK and 53 V-Max are shooting really well for me. Will be trying the 62 TSX next.

Been loading 60gr V Max's for years, but bought a few cans of HPR reman., and it shoots about as good as my reloads. No more messing with little 223 cases anymore !

69 tipped matchking
It's become my go-to bullet and does it all well from paper to critters at any and all ranges

My Rock River Varmint shoots most everything pretty well. For varmints, 50 NBT, 55 NBT, 55 Hor V-Max all work well. For hogs and deer, Barnes 62 TTSX works better than 62 TSX. 69 Sie. MK works well, as does 75 Berger VLD. Berger single-load, with bullet into the lands. All except Barnes 0.75 MOA or better, TTSX ~1 MOA, TSX ~1.75 MOA. All except Berger loaded to 2.255" OAL. Various powders-terminator, Benchmark, CFE 223.

My goto bullets are the 52gr SMK/NCC, 55gr NBT, and 60gr NPT.

I use mostly 60 grain Sierra HP's for varmints, 65 grain SGK's for deer and keep a stock of Lake City green tips (loaded ammo) on hand for plinking and whatever

That bullet is not designed with a true hollow point is it? Aint it just a clone of the 77grain SMK? Does the bullet tumble and shatter or does it really open up? Cannot beat the price on those things.

exit is larger than entry. Maybe double or triple the size of entry mostly.
I've shot a few things with 77s too ,and no issues that I could tell.
Of course you have to remember I don't like huge holes, I'm usually awfully precise on shot placement also. And when they run a bit, I'm not upset at all.
But tehn I've shot lots of things with lots of different SMK matchkings and I've never seen an issue. Much more reliable results than sierras erratically performing game kings in my years of shooting.
