As a land owner, I hate it when ANYBODY gets possessive about MY property. If you don't own the land, it's not your stand - the owner is allowing you the priveledge to hunt it too. Be thankful.
Having said that, if anyone where behaving unethically or unlawfully or (in my case) shooting little bucks, they would be gone and would never be welcome to return.

+1 I was thinking the same thing.... that is not his stand because it's not his land friend or not. Be glad you have a place you can go where you might be fortunate enough to shoot a descent buck.
I used to hunt a farm that my brother in law worked on (his parents owned it) and I would ask permission every year to hunt on the farm even though I knew I didn't have to but I wanted to make sure they knew that I appreciated it. I helped work on the farm when I could or if they needed some help from time to time.

2mg, quit boo hooing and slobering on here. You know you can't stand it cause of the guy getting the big buck. You should have stayed and hunted. "Nobody here gives a rats azz"... Is'nt that what you say?

Interesting that no where in the country are they on the same page as spikes.
No less, I'd rather someone bust a few spikes that would have, minimum, a number of years to get to something, than to shoot a promising 3.5 yo buck. Yet I still defer and shoot only older cull bucks or does while waiting(probably for life) for the good buck to come along.

Gentlemen---The actual stand, the Tower of Death, as we call it, is a permanent one, built out of MY materials(composite decking materials) by ME. It is not actually on the landowners property, but a 40 acre parcel next to it owned by an old man who no longer hunts. Never even seen him in the 10 years I have been hunting there, and I've hunted there A LOT. Rocket, I truly am not mad about the guy hunting in my stand, as I said, I've offered it up many times to try and let others get a buck. I'm pissed that he got it by travelin' down a road that I would not have taken. By the way, the 6pt he shot at and missed, was with his handi-rifle.......Maybe I could get my point across better if I post this in every forum on the board. Hmmmm....2MG

Cat's oughta the bag. You're cry'in, man. Aint fool'in nobody. Ha!! Handi Rifle, everybodies got'em...(and holding onto their ejectors). Me and my Handi woulda past on the little 6-pt, but I'd of been cool as a cucumber in takin that 14-pointer. If I missed, nobody would be told. You better pipe down, those guys at camp are gonna give you h*##. Hey, if your not there, your stand is up for grabs plan and simple. Ethics in this deal....? That's just boo hoo. Ha!!!

I guess shooting 2 ILLEGAL bucks(and another small one) before you finally find the big one(out of someone else's spot) is ethical to you. That's cool. Typical response from someone that shoots a kiddy gun. I've no problem with the harvest of a MATURE buck. Maybe if you get a MATURE rifle you'll understand. Handi-rifles and button bucks go hand in hand.......

I'd rather be a kid who knew better, than an old man who still shoots a handi-rifle.....

You refer to the hunter as a friend and then as a friend of a friend. If he's a friend, just have a polite conversation with him regarding the "illegal" deer. If he's your friend's friend, well, if you've already talked with your friend and he let something pass that you wouldn't have... you might just have to let it go.
Maybe next year you'll want to make clear who can and can't use "your" stand. Let's consider what the landowner might think if he shows up there and finds strangers in "your" stand on his land... if you aren't careful, next year he might be posting about his complaints with you on this forum. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Take a deep breath. If this is the worst thing that happens to you this year then you've had a good year. You voiced your concerns to the land owner/friend. Let it go. Otherwise, you'll lose friends and a great hunting locale. Only other advice would be to stop letting folks use "your" stand.

Lettin' it go and harrassing him when I see him(the shooter) is about the only option. The landowner only lives right down the street from me, and I see him a lot. Like I said, I don't care who uses my stand after I leave. If they shoot a nice buck, so be it. The landowner, 2 years ago, shot an 8pt out of it 2nd day of the season. I shot one out of it the day before. I was happy for him. I'm just pissed about the taking of three immature bucks before the taking of the big one. The guy should have been tagged out. I do not shoot small deer, and I do not keep hunting after I've taken my legal limit. The reason I shoot a good buck every year is because I let the spikes and such go---2MG

to clarify:
"he is a long time friend of my friend, who owns the land" means (I think) that the hunter (poacher) is not the poster's friend, nor is he the landowner. The poster's friend is the landowner, and the hunter (poacher) is the friend of that guy.
