A couple months ago, a 243 American that had been kryloned and hack sawed to 19" came home with me for $200
I pulled the barrel and did some measuring, and found a stainless 308 hawkeye takeoff barrel I had was almost a drop in. I only needed to turn 4 thou off the shoulder and breech face for perfect head spacing.
So the answer is yes, the reverse should work fine.
I wrote down the measurements and sketched it al to make sure I wasn't crazy and end up with a bolt in my forehead so you need more info just ask
