A 21-year-old man has died in Lincoln, Neb., after being hit in the head by a golf club in a vandalism incident gone awry, Lincoln police officials have announced.

Brian J. Brinker died at Bryan-LGH East Medical Center about 12 hours after the incident, in which he was struck when a 23-year-old companion of his swung a club that broke.

The companion, whom police didnt name, was sitting in the front seat of a vehicle and was whacking mailboxes with a golf club as they drove by. Upon striking one mailbox, the club broke and the clubhead flew back into the vehicle, striking Brinker in the head.

Brinker, who was sitting in the back seat, suffered a puncture wound and was unresponsive, officials said. He died after emergency surgery was unsuccessful, they said.

The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault. The Lancaster County Attorney's Office was expected to review the case.
Hard to say which mailbox broke the club, I'd like to think it was mine.
