Does anyone know what happened to the 1022 Magnums? I have two but my kids love em for close range yote guns. I tried the gun outlets and they just grin and say "Get in line it will be a while." Thanks

I thought I heard, on this forum awhile back, that Ruger quit making them.

Yes ruger did stop making the 10/22 Mag.

There were rumors of a re-design but I haven't heard anyting lately.

If you send a broken 10/22 Mag to ruger your very likely to get a 77/22 Mag sent back to you. One of the guys over at rimfirecentral had that happen to him when he send his in with a broken bolt.

I got one about a year before they stopped making them. Prices on them went up so if you find one at a reasonable price grab it fast.

The demise of the 10/22 magnum fascinates me. The 10/22LR is one of the most successful gun designs of all time so I have to wonder if the 10/22magnum was really a problem gun or was it just unfairly compared to a legend?

Peep,
I had a 10/22 magnum, but could only find one brand of ammo that wouldn't jam in it.
Finally traded it off and got a Ruger 96 lever action 22 magnum.
Am VERY happy with the lever. As a plus, it's more accurate.
Same balance/feel and magazines.

Did you ever return the gun to Ruger for repair? It is sort of a mechanical mystery as to why the 10/22mag, being so similar to the 10/22LR can have so many problems that it led to the model being discontinued while the 10/22LR goes on to be an astounding success story. I guess it was just one of those things that appeared to be a sure bet that turned out to be a loser.

Zen,
No I never did sent it back to Ruger, but I did put a Green Mountain barrel on it, and put it in a Hogue stock.
Did trigger work, etc.
Just to ammo sensitive for me.
The Ruger 96 is the "cats meow" for me.

Last I heard it is not only dead but Ruger is not repairing them either.

I think it's a pressure issue.

As to jamming, If you follow the Ruger instructions and use only the ammo they recommend, they NEVER jam. I think it's more of the assult rifle nonsense that they are a lot like the old M1 carbine. Anyhow, I love em.

In order to fix the jamming change the extractor to a Volquartson. The factory extractor is pretty much hit or miss. And for most people it is a miss.

Bought 1 and wouldn't change a thing. Only wish they would start making them again.

is the jam a becasue it did not extract or it did not eject? if it extracted but did not eject it may just need cleaning.

To answer the mag question, they have stopped making them, and if you can find a used one under $500 you are lucky.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....
