A friend of mine has an 02 Big Bear 400 that he is pull the motor out of. Everything is loose but can't figure out how to undo the 4 wheel drive linkage. Any suggestions?

is this a 4 wheeler, on my dodge 1500 the cv shafts are held in place by a clip, you have to use a pry bar to get them out, the clips compress when enough pressure is used.

I do a lot of work on all my own bikes. I have rebuilt lots of vintage dirt bikes and do lots of work on all my own cars and trucks.
Do yourself a favor and but a factory service manual.
And then RTFM!
