Picked up a real nice 1935 99H 250-3000 Savage barrel-band off a GB Buy Now button. When it arrived today I breathed a sigh of relief when I measured the barrel, 20" (pawn shop had it listed as 23", but it looked like 20" ... I didn't want to wait for an answer when it had a Buy Now button). Based on David's book, this one is a V3-1 (unmarked butt plate, integral ramp front sight). Condition even better than I hoped. A good cleaning and some Kroil in a few spots is next on the agenda.

Salute! What a great gun and cartridge. Mine loves Hornady and Sierra 75 gr HP, as well as Speer 87 Hot Cores. One load of RL15 and 75 gr bullet books at 3300 fps and shoots 1", but I haven't chronographed to verify. The load I normally shoot is mild at <2700 fps and 3/4". Overall, I think this combination of cartridge and rifle is one of Savage's best. I'm positive you will enjoy yours. I got "lucky" and found one already d&T'd, for my failing eyes. Angus1895 and I called in and shot this bear last year with one. It was a skinny one, sure, but hey the 250 kilt it deadrnhell.

Roy, nice bear!
This is my 1st 250-3000. I have dies, brass and Speer 87gr Hot Cor headed my way. I have some Win 748, IRM 3031 and H4895 on hand and found load data for these; anyone tried one of these three in the 250-3000?

Super way to start your 250 collection!!
I've been wanting a BB 250 since about 15 minutes after I traded mine away.

Yep, V3-1. I'm jealous. I have the other 3 calibers in 99H but no 250. I like the carbine butt better than the shotgun butt which my V3-3 300 Savage has.

Sure am happy that you seen that before I did. Temptation would have been to much. Didn't think I needed another 99 until I seen that one. Well a 358R & a 250T I would still have room for. Dang I am one sick Savage 99 puppy. GW

Nice. That's one that's been on my list for years. You got a very good buy. It would be heading to North Dakota if I'd have saw it first!!! Congrats.

Seller lost some profit by doing a "buy-it-now" on that one!

I'm sorry, but I gotta chuckle every time I see y'all refer to "BB" carbines. I always flash on "BB gun", as in Red Ryder. Good lord, can you imagine the turn of events had that Christmas kid gotten a BB Savage by mistake instead of a Red Ryder?!

Getting this 99H 250-3000 makes me want to believe that good karma exists. Last Tuesday night I hit the Buy Now button on an extremely nice 99EG in 250-3000 for $650. I contacted the seller the next morning and he told me he was dumbfounded, as the rifle sold for $1200 earlier the same evening. Somehow, after the rifle sold under the first auction that evening, it listed renewed/reposted … must have been some GB glitch. Needless to say, I was really disappointed. This is the 99EG 250-3000 I thought I had won: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=550016600And this was the acution it actually sold under an hour or so earlier: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=548822713

Too bad about the confusion but I think it's on the seller and not GB. You can choose to relist an item even if it sells which is what I do with my screws and studs listings. If he picked the wrong option it would relist after sold.
Glad you got a good score to make up for it!!

If he just relisted it, I don't think it would have a buy it now of $650 if the previous one didn't.
But, yeah.. guessing the seller screwed up somehow.
Nice grab on the 250-3000.

I have one just like yours. I put a Stith and Lyman Alaskan on mine. 87 gr.
It is an extremely accurate rifle. The handiness of the 20 inch barrel, the ease of shooting a 250, and clarity of the Lyman Alaskan makes this rifle my favorite to shoot out of all my 99s.
That is a great original example you got there. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

I'd still buy one of these in a heartbeat. Only 250 BB that I have seen in Canada was at my local gun shop. Older gentleman was just picking it up from being drilled and tapped for a scope Said it was his Grandpa's and he wanted to hunt it again and his eyes weren't good enough for the irons anymore and he wanted to get it back in the woods. Rifle was really high original finish.

I like the carbines so much I'd like to build a BB carbine in .358. Had intended to do one in .375, but have scratched the .375 itch with a different design.
I have a donor 99R receiver in the 600K range and bb forearm with the hardware. Need a .358 carbine length barrel, or a carbine barrel with a bad bore I could have rebored by JES. The R barrel has a ring in the bore so would be a good rebore candidate, but it's 24". To cut it I'd lose the front sight. Also not sure on the buttstock design, curved or straight. The donor receiver has a curved lever now, but that could go away.
Probably a few different ways to skin this cat. It's all fun and games.

You could take the barrel back to 20-inches and cut a dovetail for the front sight. Following that I'd go with a straight stock, but maybe opt out for the shotgun butt instead of the carbine stock as the curved buttplate could cause issues under the recoil of a .358.

Won't you have a cartridge length problem with the .358 in a 600K action?
What length barrel do you plan?
First Brl Bands had dovetailed sight. Could mount the one screw version used on the Late 99A.
