While visiting a local sporting goods I saw some rimfire ammo on sale for $17.49 for a 325 round brick, it was labeled Federal auto match. Went out and fired 10 rounds at a small target at 25 yards with my antique Winchester model 62A, all ten rounds hit in a 1 inch circle. I ran 10 rounds through my chronograph and got results that were almost unbelievable, 31 fps extreme spread, standard deviation of 7, usually I get as much as 100 feet per second extreme spread and standard deviations of 25 or more, anybody tried this ammo with similar results.

Auto match is pretty good ammo. A good price around here is 19.99/325. It is in about the same league as CCI standard velocity for accuracy. I just bought a 5 carton limit at a big shop's spring sale.

It's primarily made for semi-autos (but works in anything). All of my 10-22's and Ruger MKII's/mkI's have loved the stuff. However, someone here said they got a bad batch. Maybe he will chime in and fill us in on the LOT# again...

I've shot it with pretty good results. Accurate. Not too many duds.

I'm lucky. Never had a dud with the stuff and it is reasonably accurate..

My Ruger MK 1 and 10/22 love Auto-match.

Thanks for your report - I prefer to have hollow-points on hand for my uses.
This past week I did MUCH travel chasing guns and saw this ammo for sale from $22.00 to $26.00 at different places - if I had seen this stuff anywhere near $17.00 I would have bought a bunch for the grandkids to plink with if nothing else.

You are certainly welcome, I only estimated the size of the group that I shot, last night I measured it, it measured .840, I wonder how it will do with my scoped Ruger 10-22.

It's still a little expensive in AZ- I've got 5-6 boxes of it. Seems to be okay quality.

I dont have any semi-auto .22 rifles. I've tried in it an old Marlin Glenfield model 25 and a Zastavas CZ99.

Worked okay.

I like it for my Hi Standard Model B 6". It's lower velocity so it keeps from battering this older gun.

It seems to function well with average but not great accuracy in my Rem 597s. When you can find it under $20 for a 325 pack I like it for general plinking.

Buy all you can. Good stuff.

I've shot it through a Marlin 39A, a Marlin 25, a Remington 514, and a couple of wheelguns. It has not been a stellar performer as the word "match" would suggest but it is at the very least good plinking ammo. Especially, as it has been the most common type found for what is now a reasonable price. I should try it in my tricked out 10/22 and the High Standard but I keep the brass to recycle and it is harder to find the empties for the autos.

I will pick it up whenever I see it if the price is in the $18 range as it is more than adequate for shooting steel and for ridding the bird feeders of red squirrels. With the paucity of ammo choices these days, one cannot not be too choosey.

I wish I could have bought more of it, they were limiting it to one box per customer. This is the first time I have seen this ammo, when I bought my 10-22 about six years ago I bought a bunch of 50 round boxes of various brands, one box was labeled federal match but don't know if it was the same however it was very accurate so it could be. Here in Nevada rimfire ammo is starting to become available again at decent prices depending where you buy it, my local Walemart sells 100 round packs of Cci mini mags for $8.00, down the sreet at Big R same stuff sells for $13.00. Winchester 40 gr hollow points 100 pack goes for $8.49 at Walmart, saw the same stuff at the Reno gun show for $20.00.
