Anyone know who makes the synthetic stocks that Dakota uses?

I have a beautiful wood stocked Dakota 76 I would like to get a synthetic for so I can hunt with it and not ding the original wood stock up.

Doesn't have to be from Dakota either...anyone know who makes any aftermarket synthetic for Dakota rifles?

Thanks, Sam

MPI offers a "Dakota Classic" stock pattern that they claim is based off the original Dakota wood stocks. If you get one, I'd like to hear your feedback. I am contemplating purchasing one for a project.

The Dakota MPI stocks are extremely well built, but very heavy.

Im also looking for a lightweight Dakota stock for a Model 98 257 AI.

I've had the MPI Dakota. To be honest i did not like it. There is too much drop through the comb and the grip is swept back and was too open and long. Not enough downturn in the grip and your hand swims around looking for a place to stop.

I found the stock slow and awkward to mount and aim. Not much to love.

If I were going to stock a Dakota I would talk to Darcy Echols and get a Legend. I am pretty darned sure they can easily be fitted to a Dakota action and they are vastly superior to the MPI in every way.

I have also had Dakota's in Bansner stocks and they, too beat the MPI Dakota design by a long shot.

This is a factory installed MPI(?) on a 76

[Linked Image]

Any stock inletted with a pre-64 footprint will work on a 76.

I sent mine to Hill Country Rifles for one of their McMillan "Bridges" stocks.
