This is the buck I was lucky enough to tag after passing up three forked horns on 5 different outings. The rifle is a model 99 .300 Savage that I think was made in the 70's, ser#1003042. If anyone knows the date of manufacture that would be great to know. This is my first animal taken with a 99 but not the last. Ammo was current production corelokt and they mushroomed perfectly............Scott
Wow! I don't know blacktails, but I think that's an awesome buck, and definitely unique! Good rifle too. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I loved hunting blacktails when I was stationed in CA. They are tough to hunt and catch at close range. They can run straight up a hill like nothing. Great buck..

Actually I wasn't on the coast, I'm in the Reding area which is about 3 hours north of Sacramento. Great place to live if you like the outdoors, which I do..........Scott
That is a nice looking Blackie, Scott. I have chased many a Blackie up that way, mostly towards Birney Falls and the thriving metropolis of Bieber, CA!
