One of these is available at academy sports for 379.99. How good are these. I like the 9.25 twist for heavy loads. But do not know how good these guns are. How is accuracy trigger and general suitability for long distance hunting for pronghorn muleys and elk.what accuracy are they capable off. How is the stock. Thanks

How good a marksman are you at the distances you envision hunting at, shooting in field positions?
Unless you end up with the odd lemon, R700/7RM are as capable as the hunter shooting it.

Fairly good. Have taken elk at 400 yards with shooting sticks and antelope at 600 prone. In ideal conditions on a calm day could extend it further. My main concern is the price is too good to be true and I don't want to be stuck with a cheap no good piece of rifle.

I can't speak for the 7RM, but the two 243 and a 308 that I've had all shot well. The actions are nearly worth the asking price. Worst case you scrap the stock and barrel and have something to build off of. The stocks are a little flimsy but most work well enough. I actually like the new triggers but I'm a hunter and not a BR shooter.
There is a 7RM ADL in a B&C Alaskan stock locally for $400. I have no use for a 7RM nor the LA stock so I pass it up every time I go in the shop.

Lionclaw -
Keep in mind / possible lemon / New 700s.
My newest 700 is a 94-95 model, 7 RM synthetic which is ADL not wood. Over the yrs. I have had many 700s and not 1 gave me any trouble and ALL were plenty accurate.
1 of 2 MOST accurate rifles I ever owned was an ADL 30-06.
I'm not sure about NEW 700 triggers, but the older triggers were easily adjustable. IF / IF the new ones are like the old, the trigger mech is a flat box. There is ONE (1) screw in the BACK of the mechanism. Leave it ALONE - it's Sear engagement.
In front of the mech there are 2 screws. One adjusts travel, the other adjusts pull weight. NOTE - that's how they USED TO be.
As to price - 380 - 400 $ is terrific IMO.

I have a very old 700 ADL with a wood stock, love this rifle. A girl friend got me a 700 ADL in 243. One of the worst shooting rifles I've ever owned. I removed it from the stock, hard job, felt like the stock was poured around it. To get it apart I had to bang toe barrel on the back of my couch. From there I re-bedded everything and floated the barrel. The recoil lug was so tight, I think it was the major problem in getting it apart. I don't like plastic stock's but have to admit that after I got done with it, it shot fine. I shoot 75gr V-Max's in it and it stays under an inch.
I wouldn't get another for no other reason than the plastic stock. I like the 700 a good deal and prefer the ADL version.

I have one in .243, it shoots just fine with the factory loads that I've put into it so far. You'll like it if you pick it up, so I wouldn't worry much about that!

My XCR II is bad ass. Step up finish wise, but the guts are the same. Kissing 162's inside the magbox is good juju.

I got an ADL from academy in the safe I bought two years ago. It has a timney trigger but factory barrel has been very accurate. It gets hunted with a lot. Just look it over before you buy.
If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ...
