Plans have been announced to change the names of several Houston area schools, because they are named after heroes of the Confederacy. Among them are schools named after Lee and Jackson, of course, and also "Dick" Dowling. Sort of ironically, Mr. Dowling was an Irish immigrant (and yes, I realize that in those days, a whole lot of Americans were "immigrants").
It will supposedly cost around $250,000 to change each name, and of course, those demanding the changes (want to bet how much these groups pay in school taxes?) are not offering to pay that bill. I saw a black man interviewed on TV this morning who said the names didn't really offend him, but he understood they did offend some people, and he felt if a school name offended ANYBODY, it should be changed. Of course, it might even be argued that many minority students who might be offended by these names really don't understand who these people were, or what they did?
Things will be much better when heroes of the south are all gone and replaced by more Harriet Tubmans.

I'd identify each school with an alpha-numeric ID. No name. Put the same number on any school team jersey.
Examples:
PS-4 (primary school)
MS-7 (Middle School)
HS-5 (High School)
Then nobody should be butt hurt.
Teach history in history class.
