My frined dropped a rifle off with me the other day, fo rmy brother to drill and tap for scope mounts. It is a 20-inch barreled, 3/4 tube mag Model 336 CS in .35 Rem. I've never handled too many Marlin levers, other than the 1894 .44 Mag I had several years ago. It sure is a neat little rifle! Serial number is J15### Did they make many of these? I haven't seen too many .35s with the 3/4 tube magazine.

I'm no expert but it sounds like that was one of the early ones probably from the 1950's. I know the early ones weren't tapped for scope mounts.

If I were him I would think twice about altering it until he finds out how old it is and what it is worth in original condition. It is worth looking into.

The serial number indicates that it was made in 1952. I have no further info.
