Well, I always thought a Fallow European Mount on a Black Forest Type plaque was skookum, and I found a place that has some nice ones at times at a good price. The idea is to hunt pigs and if a fallow shows up......

Sounds like a good plan. Those pigs eat good.

Tom,
My experience with fallow deer isn't vast but has taken place in the Czech Republic and New Zealand, as well as a couple places in the U.S., one of them Texas. The big stags aren't very good to eat, but the females are great and the young males quite palatable.

The grand-kids and I have harvested more than a few off of a lease that my brother had over around Camp Wood. Didn't take any big bucks, but the does were just as palatable as the whitetails--but not as good as the axis deer.

Took quite a few Fallow deer when I lived in Sweden. Dovhjort in Swedish. They are a lot of fun to hunt. The meat quality is excellent! I prefer it to most NA deer species, save for a good cut of elk. Not terribly hard to kill but I would take your "Big Gun" Here is one of my better bucks from Sweden and a mount that I know you like

The Fallow deer bucks we have here are a little heavier than most Axis, the same age. your big gun will work fine. our Fallow, are very timid and are a little tougher hunt than Axis, as far as eating goes Fallow, are not in the same league as Axis. Rio7

Is the 223AI even big enough for deer? Jeez Man, use enough gun! On more than a few occasions, I chased moose with a single shot rifle in 6.5x55 or fallow deer and roebucks with a .222. So all things being equal... I guess it could work in a pinch I forgot to mention that Mule Deer reminded me of a really important point. These deer supposedly go sour during the rut; almost inedible. The Swedes actually shut the season down for harvesting bucks for almost the entire breeding period.
