Tim Sundles of Buffalo Bore Ammunition pleads guilty to poisening Wolves in Idaho!!!Quite the contraversy since his encounter in the back country with a collered wolf he killed in self defense which I do not doubt but the rules say you have to report it within so many day's in which,he didn't because of where he was and the time it takes to pull up camp and get back home.....He did post on his web site how to poison wolves and was quite cocky to the fed's that finally busted him. The Wolf issue in Idaho has really gone wild!!!! SALMON, Idaho - An outspoken opponent of U.S. government efforts to reestablish the gray wolf in western states has pleaded guilty to trying to poison the federally protected species, a U.S. prosecutor said on Friday.
Tim Sundles, 48, planted meatballs laced with a poisonous pesticide in Idaho's remote Salmon-Challis National Forest in 2004 with the aim of killing wolves, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Fica.
The meatballs instead poisoned a coyote, fox, magpies and three pet dogs, according to court records. He signed a written plea ahead of a scheduled trial next week.
Sundles could face as much as six months behind bars and five years probation.
In the past Sundles, a maker of custom ammunition, has said he and his wife were attacked by a wolf while camping in the Idaho wilderness five years ago and he shot the animal dead.
"Wolves are the worst wildlife disaster in the history of managed wildlife," he said in an interview last month. "You have to kill the living daylights out of them."
Wolves have been the subject of fierce debate in western states since the federal government in 1995 released 66 into Idaho and Yellowstone National Park to try to reestablish a species hunted nearly to extinction.
Roughly 1,200 wolves now range over parts of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
Sundles, who recently moved from Salmon, Idaho, to Montana, has been an outspoken national critic of wolves, which are protected under the federal Endangered Species Act. He was the force behind a Web site with instructions on how to kill wolves with poisoned meatballs, according to legal documents.
In January, the U.S. Department of Interior gave Idaho and Montana more control over their wolf populations. That made it easier for ranchers to kill wolves harassing their livestock and allowed the states to kill off wolf packs making dents in big-game populations provided the U.S. government agreed.
Sundles' guilty plea comes as the federal government is planning to remove wolves from the endangered species list in Idaho and Montana. Wyoming's wolves will remain under federal protections until the state resolves its legal differences with the U.S. government. All three states plan hunting seasons on wolves once they are in charge of managing them. Jayco

SALMON, Idaho - ...Tim Sundles, 48, planted meatballs laced with a poisonous pesticide . . . said Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Fica. Jeez, I wish these high falutin lawyers would explain what non-poisonous pesticide was.

He made good ammo. Do you know what sentence he received? I've been trying to find out how serious his charge was and the penalty. I was afraid they'd have a hard time finding an objecive jury in Salmon!

I was just elk hunting in Idaho and we saw the remains of 4 elk killed by wolves along 5 miles of pack trail. The locals say that the elk are a lot more spooked than usual from all the wolves. Shoot them all I say. The folks in Idaho got this forced upon them by some morons at USFW. The RMEF spends years and untold dollars to reestablish the elk herds and some government dumbasses foul it all up. Typical. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I have been following this since day one and facts are hard to get a hold of on this case.I assume in a day or two all the Idaho news stations will air what happened, but not yet. The poison that was used is what's getting him in trouble, not the actuall killings themselves.
He used "Temik", a commercially availible poison (pesticide) (primarily consisting of Aldicarb) deadly to just about anything, including humans. It's mainly used to kill of soil pests (like eel-worms) that are much harder to kill using standard methods.
The primary cause of death by the pesticide is respiratory failure.
The killing of the animals must not be in play because to use Temik you have to be a licensed farmer or hoticulrualist. Apperantly, Sundles was neither.
Maximum Penalty for un-licensed misuse of the chemical?
$100,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail. Jayco

Thats exactly how I feel!!!!!The third S in SSS means shutup!!!He chose not to and now is paying the price. It reminds me of the guy from Lewiston Idaho that shot a wolf near here and saved the tail(froze it in his freezer) then went down town and got hammered and bragged about it...He is also paying the price.... All three states plan hunting seasons on wolves once they are in charge of managing them. It would seem prudent to work positively so we could have one more game animal to hunt, but then maybe some people prefer to spend their time in jail rather than legal wolf hunting.

Here in upper MI we are being run over by wolves as well. I just saw in the local newspaper the other day that the MI DNR has caught ten people that have shot wolves in the last year. How many did they not catch? Me thinks many.

There are rumors around where we deer hunt in Northern Wisconsin that the same is happening. We ran into a lot of guys this fall who have moved into our area after a pack came through and killed all the deer around them a little ways west of us. And how about the Elk reintroduction in the Chewamagon National forest?? The State ponies up the money for the Elk and then the Fed. gov reintroduce the wolf. Lots fo guy's in that area don't much care for the Gov't dogs.

I hope this amounts to him pleading to a misdemeanor to avoid a felony record. A felony would cost him his business. Unfortunately the feds always scapegoat someone, and you can't really afford to fight them.
I sent Tim money for his defense, and would again.

Why am I not surprised at the media spinjob on this? Tim Sundles, 48, planted meatballs laced with a poisonous pesticide in Idaho's remote Salmon-Challis National Forest in 2004 with the aim of killing wolves, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Fica. should have read...Tim Sundles, 48, plead guilty to..., said Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Fica. The whole rotten thing smelled like an underhanded setup to me from the get-go. Not too hard for a government agent out to settle a score against an outspoken critic to plant a bottle of stuff on someone's property during a raid and tag it as evidence. Boot imprints in the woods???...Yeah, right....gimme a friggin' break! Let's face it, it is nearly impossible to win in federal court. Potentially lose everything defending yourself over a misdemeanor charge?...or sign on the line to get on with the rest of your life. The risk/reward ratio is super asymmetric. If it was me and I had a family and employees to support, the choice to plead guilty would be damn hard to stomach, but I'd find a way to live with it. I'll shoot the first wolf I can draw a tag for in Idaho with Buffalo Bore ammo. Count on it.
It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't, everyone would do it. The hard...is what makes it great. Reviews are only as good as the crowd reviewing them. Progressive Liberalism is the philosophy of Western suicide.

If you are going to do something illegal, even if you are convinced it is the right thing to do but still illegal, then a feller best keep his mouth shut.
Think on something for a minute.

That last S is so important. If its kept holy, then the deal is almost totally unprovable.
Our govt has screwed up again. But keep your mouth shut if you participate.
I'd never shoot a wolf ever. Won't even think about shooting one of the pretty animals. Glad to see them back................................................................................
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

The very day I get a tag, I will be out every legal minute of every legal day in the woods until it is notched.
Until then, there are no wolves. Just small coyotes and big coyotes. JMO, Dutch.
