I'm sure this has been asked but.... Is it better to neck up 243 (got lots) or neck down 7-08's (few dozen) and no rifle for either. Thanks- Muddy

I would use the one that I had the most of. Lee dies have a very tapered expander button and neck size things up real easy. In fact, I bought a .30 caliber lee decap and expander and used it in my Lee universal decapper to bring .270 up to .30 cal and then partial neck sized it back down to .284 to create a false shoulder when making .280 RCBS brass. Worked real well but wish I had turned it down a little so as to not work the brass as much. miles

Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

I have necked up 243 brass by resizing thru a 260 Rem RCBS full length die without problems. Never have used any 7-08 brass to neck down.

Reason I asked is about neck wall thickness and/or the dreaded donut.-Muddy

I have only done about 50 so far but i used some military 308 brass.

Have not shot them yet but they measure right in all the right places,no donuts yet.

7-08 is better ,but both can be done. Better being the neck is longer on 243 and may be tight.

Neck down 7-08. I've done a couple thou WW 7-08 cases over the years and have nothing but good results. Necking up is likely to result in a donut.

I've necked down 7/08 and .308 to .260... both work equally well. I've necked up .243 brass too... and it also worked, though it required trimming before loading them up.

Best way I've found to make .260 brass.... is to reach in the blue box marked "Lapua .260" and pull some out....

I've had 260s since they came out...bought ONE bag of Rem 260 Brass, and it was crap... haven't used it since...

I've ran down plenty of 308 brass to 260 with zero problems as I ended up with it for free as range brass..

have necked down Win 7/08 and Lapua 7/08 brass to 260 with zero issues...

I've necked UP 243 brass just to see and it worked fine...

But no more than that with the 243... as I shoot plenty of 243, not much 7/08 and NO 308...leave the 243 brass to the 243s... don't want it mixed up....

got 5 chambered for 260s
