Deep down it always comes to a single reason...
logic doesn't come into play, politics don't factor in.
Talking heads can back and forth all day long , but, the real reason is money.
Pittman–Robertson
Pittman–Robertson Act mandates an 11% excise tax on firearms and ammunition.
2015 number are 1.1 billion dollars in revenue.
Secondly look at the numbers of jobs in the firearms and ammunition/ accessories industry lost.
Thirdly the loss in investments would be absolutely ridiculous.
Ruger, for example , has seen an increase from $7.5 per share to $60+ in 8 years.
Follow the money.
Absolute HORSE HOCKEY! We already have seen a ten year Assault Weapons Ban. It made some people feel good about "doing something" to control guns but NEVER moved the needle on any crime rate. It DID send high capacity magazine prices thru the roof, as well as prices for the named banned weapons. Then some enterprising souls cranked up production on clone firearms that could be sold freely because they were not on the banned list. And if they do it again we can expect similar results, but this time there are millions more ARs and AKs in public circulation.
