You won't find many other guns with a 6:00 standing ejector. There's a reason for that. The 85s I've had hit scopes wouldn't have been helped by smaller turrets. They already had small turrets and hit the bottom of the scope tube itself.
I've had the most consistent ejection from guns with plunger ejectors. The Xbolt is a 3 lug similar to Sako but plunger ejector. Ejection angle is perfect on the 3 I've had.
Im also a little tired of folks belittling 700 type actions as not being reliable enough for dangerous game. Nobody told the Army or Marines. When I was younger and only shot 700s I never knew what ejection problems were. It wasn't until spending $1500-$2000 for boutique rifles that I heard my first ping of brass banging a scope tube. Plungers work until they fill with sludge and crap, or freeze, and then they don't. I hope no one is gonna tell me this never happens ....

Correct. Takes a little maintenance. Don't get me wrong Bob I love my pre 64s but have had no functional problems with plungers. Actually more consistent ejection IME. I've got Mausers and M70s that will sometimes whip cases around nicking the stock near the bolt handle slot. Never had a plunger do that either.
For the record Sako uses plungers on the TRG sniper rifles which are used by militaries all over.
And I still don't see how a rifle action used in combat for decades is ill equipped for any hunting situation.

Horse me neither...and Rem 700 have never given me a problem. But I have seen the goblins in rifles belonging to others. Mostly I just stare and say...."Oops! What happened there? "

I was also concerned about ejection problems before recently buying a Sako 85 in .270, due to what I read on the internet. I went ahead and purchased the rifle anyway and have never had an issue - not one.

Don't get me wrong about Sako 85. I own several and they're excellent rifles. Ejection isn't their strong suit but no rifle design is perfect and all have trade offs. 85s feed smoother and quieter than any other gun I've ever owned.....
