I heard mixed reviews about this area; populations down, spotty, over 1 hunter per square mile. It took me 5 years to draw and now I feel like it's a winner's curse. Would you please PM me if you've hunted this unit before? I am just beginning my research.

To avoid any undue hunting pressure on the sensitive deer herds there, please don't post information on where to hunt on this thread as the 'masses of hunters' in California are likely going to just Google this topic and go hunting right there.

Please PM me if you have any thoughts/ideas on where to start looking.

Thank you.

Never hunted there, but know many who have. Suggest you go to the Fish & Wildlife website and read up on the zone. It's a good place to start. Under hunting info, they suggest good places to hunt. Then ask for contact information of the local biologist. I've used many of them over the years and all have been very helpful. Might take some effort, but usually they respond easily to e-mails.
If it is a low density population, keep in mind that the deer will be present only in certain areas. I look for sign first when selecting a hunting area. E

The success rate is over 50% for X6b; not sure what you're worried about.

Start perusing Jesse's Hunting and Monster Muleys. Plenty of unit-specific info on those sites.

Yes, I definitely will scout. I've a few leads narrowed down as to general areas to look at. If you have any insights, please feel free to PM me. One of my concerns is that I do not have a truck or quad and most hunters will. There are few places that cannot be accessed by road so I may be at a slight disadvantage given that I prefer to DYI and spot and stalk by foot.
