I think 850 - 900 is fair all the way around. I also think you should buy this rifle, cherish it and take it to africa soon! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I see them selling priced at $1,200, so I would think offering her $1,000 would be reasonable. Winchester always did well with the their rifles in the .300 H&H and .375 H&H chamberings, and those barrels were all cut-rifled I have been told. They almost all shoot well.
If you can state the serial number, I can comment further.

$800 popped into my mind, but be assured that whatever you pay, someone will always say you ripped her off. A dealer wouild give a widow $300 and not think twice. No good deed goes unpunished. On the other hand if I'd give 8, it's probably worth a little more. Good luck. t

Jesus H. Christ, you guys are some cheap bastards, either that or just don't know the market.
I see "hunter" Pre-64 300 H&H's go for $1200-$1400 all the time,without even a crap scope,let alone something quality like a Leupold Vari-X III.Minty ones,when you run across them,go for $1800-$2200.
$600-$900?With the scope? Are you guys dreaming?
Chit,I'll fork over $600 for it right now and you can keep the damn scope as a parting gift.
If you want to give her what it's worth, fork over $1200-$1500.The rifle is worth a minimum of $1000 unless it's absolutley ratchitted, and the scope is worth $300-$350.
If you don't want to screw her over, either let her go online and find out where they are REALLY worth by looking at what they sell for,or let her auction it off on GunBroker or Auction Arms. Those things pull big $$$ on there.
I can't remember the last time I saw a Remington 721 300 H&H in decent shape for $600...........

Here's some Pre-64 Model 70 300 H&H's off of GunsAmerica. Reblued, otherwise decent shape-$1100. http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976801133.htmVery good condition, slight blue wear-$1785 http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976803436.htm95%,missing rear sight and front sight hood-$1800 http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976807359.htmI think the one in question might be worth a little more than $600-$900,with a Leupy Vari-X III.......... When was the last time anyone saw a Pre-64 action on this site for $500. Just got back from TULSA and almost all H&H actions alone were $800 during the Friday dealers sale. I got one short mag for $550 and Two H&H for $750 each. All three have been sold for more. Most 300 H&H are selling for $1200 complete. If the stock is not real short you usually have to change the pads out because they become so hard. The short of it is I'll give her $900 and I am not a friend of the family.

I was thinking 06' and should have shifted into 300 thinking.
My father in law has one. I think I want it.
