What's your favorite? I am a lot more comfortable with my knowledge of big game bullets, and there are a lot of tiny little increments out there from the major mfgrs. -- 40, 45, 50, 52, etc....

I shoot prairie dogs with the .222 and 220 Swift. Just about any hollow point or plastic tip bullet that my guns like will make red mist. I will go out on a limb and recommend the 52 gr.Sierra match hollow point boat tail as being the most accurate bullet in most rifles. The 40 gr. Nosler Ballistic tips are good too but run out of steam at 300 plus yards from the .222. They roll the dogs but do not exit. I can't think of a .224 bullet that would not do the job if your rifle will make it group.

my preference in 223 and 22-250 is with hornady's vmax. my 223 seems to be at its best w/ 40-50 grain bullets. w/ this bullet loaded to top 223 velocity, i get exits on prairie dogs out to roughly 400 yards. the blow-ups stop at around 280 yards.

Hunting is not a matter of life or death. It is much more important than that.

All I shoot with my Swift is groundhogs and the occassional red fox with mange. My rifle loves Hornady VMax 50gr and it puts groundhogs down for the count out past 400yds without difficulty.
So get your hands on as many types of ammo in varying grains and start shootin, your rifle will fill in the blank for ya.
Good Luck!
220 Swift still king.

For ground hogs I would recommend the 55 gr Hornady SX. A devestating bullet if there ever was one. (of course I am biased )
For me they are really accurate and cheap to boot. If your into spending money go with Nosler BT in 55 or 50 grain. Good stuff also.
I am recommending the 55 grain bullets because the ground hog can be a tough critter and the extra weight, I think, carries a bit more splat when it hits the critter.
Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.
When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.
PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

At the Van Buren County Red Mist Association, we like the 40 gr V-Max for 'hogs. So far, I have never had any one of them take more than one shot to put them down. Devistating round. Lotsa fun! Keeb

My rifle likes sierra's 50 blitz(not blitzking) and the 50gr V-Max.
Walk softly and carry a big bore!

My favorite Grounghog bullet is the Hornady 50gr V-Max. It works great on Coyotes as well.

55 VMax flatbase. Vicious Maximus. Use something slowish like Varget that will fill the case, and it should carry plenty of Whop out there. I've nailed a couple coyotes with the VM55 at about 300 yards and down they went. The farthest whistle pig was "only" 250 yards and his far side was bulged out pretty bad. Any closer and there ain't no far side.
