... I thought maybe that one was a fluke, so I called a friend who really knows his rifles and scopes. I started to tell him just last week about the VARI X 1 that I had looked thru. Before I even said any more he said "Yeh, I know, ya couldn't hardly even SEE through it could ya".
Who is gonna listen to someone who doesn't even know the correct designation of a scope model. There is no "VARI X 1". The Rifleman has essentially the same features as the discontinued Vari-X II, the scope Leupold built its reputation on. The VX-I is somewhat better than that with multicoated exterior lens surfaces. To say one can hardly see through a Leupold VX-I is assinine. You and your friend that really knows his rifles and scopes don't really know [bleep]. What's your agenda here?

The Tasco was on the riflw when I bought it. I have no problems with the Tasco but like I said it's a 3-9X44 and I want a sleeker scope for this rifle.

jackfish,
You know very well which scope I am talking about. No matter which way I type it (VARI X 1 vari-XI) it is still the same scope. How about this Vari X One. It is still a Leupold blunder in my book. I have no agenda other than telling the absolute truth here. Whether you want to believe me or not is you own choice. Which scope you use is also your choice.

Thanks guy's but the more I read I think I'm looking into another scope. Maybe a Nikon buckmaster or a little higher end Leupold. I appreciate evyones input. And I really thank you for keeping it on the topic.

cronkcall you still are not getting the designation right on the scope but even if you are talking about the VX I, I just bought this scope over a buckmaster, pro-staff, rifleman, burris FFII, any simmons, tasco, bushnell etc. and I must say, if you can't see through that, they don't make a scope in production thats going to help you. Again, one would have to be blind to exagerate and make a statement suppose to be backed with experienced knowledge(ie. the friend who knows rifles and scopes) that was so far from truth. Yes sir, It is MY choice and I will use it very hapily as I am sure if you checked with Leupold and sales figures there are many, many that agree with me, they also can see great through their VX I . But to each their own.

Whitey66,
I realize that Leupold recently changed their code to read VX instead of VARI-X, but you may not be old enough to remember when Leupold variable power scopes were called VARI-X. I simply haven't gotten used to the new model designations yet. What I have said here is true, but since some of you fellows are singing sweet praises for the VX-I, I have been convinced to go look through a couple more of the buggers. Perhaps they have improved a lot.

Good one himmelrr ! The Datsun pickups used to say Datsun on the tail gate. You had to look at the metal I.D. plate on door post to see the Nissan name. I owned a few of those Datsuns.
