It's been about 15 years since I touched a Savage 99. I was looking at a 99e last weekend that is tough to load. The rotary mag is pretty straight forward but thought I would ask the experts here rather than rely on my poor memory...

Am I remembering correctly that when the first round is pushed into the magazine, it goes into the slot immediately to the left (when viewed from above) of the stop vane (tallest) on the magazine ?

Yep, push all the rounds to the left and back and down.

Thanks for confirming!

This one won't take the rounds unless you manually rotate to the next slot. It appears the magazine is not stopping in the right orientation. Before correcting, I wanted to make sure I correctly remembered how these load.
