Anyone tried a 223 Ruger American with the 60 gr Nosler Partition? I have a stainless factory 1:8 barrel and my first attempt didn't fare too well. I ran 25 and 26 gr of Varget with Win cases and Wolf SRM primers at 2.26" COAL. Best I could manage was about 3" for three shot. The Hornady 60gr SP ran around 3/4"-1" with the same powder charges.
I've read something about the base being thicker on the .224 NPT that can be hard to seat into the rifling and cause accuracy issues. These are factory second bullets from SPS but I can't tell any physical defects by looking at them.
Any suggestions? What powder would be best for these? NOt opposed to trying something else out but I love some Varget for anything I can use it in.

I've never had much luck with the 60NPT in the few rifles I've tried it in.
No worries, God saw fit for Barnes to make the 62gr TSX/TTSX.

UNCCGrad,
The 60 Partition can be a little tricky to get to shoot, but they group into around inch and sometimes much less in several of my .224 centerfires, including my RAR. Generally faster rifling twists help, but also faster-burning powders and max loads--which help "bump up" the rear core to fit a particular rifle's bore better.
I generally run TAC with the 60 Partition in .223's, and have gotten decent to very good accuracy in several rifles with it, including one with a 1-12 twist. But any powder somewhat faster-burning than Varget would be worth a try, such as Benchmark, and don't be shy about using max loads.

Just looked at my notes 5 at 1.5 at 50 yards with H 4895 shot quick and windy First load of the 60 gr NP I tried in my CZ 527 1 in 12 twist.
My 1 in 14 22 - 250 would not keep them on paper.

Yeah, that's typical of 1-14 twists, especially at lower elevations.
