I'll be hunting with a muzzleloader rifle this year and it's been ten years since I last used it. I went out to try some new load workups with fancy new copper bullets and Blackhorn 209. I haven't shot open sights in a very long time.
I found out something I hadn't planned on at age 57. I can't see squat at 50 yards out of my right eye. It's time for glasses. I fired 7 rounds at what I guessed was the center of the target, I would have killed an elk but it's obvious it's time for corrective lenses

What load are you shooting?
One thing I've found that helps when I'm working up loads and trying to shoot groups with a bead front sight is to use a target with a large (at least 12") solid circle. Orange is best if you can find 'em. That way you can center the front bead inside the colored circle out to 100 and get the same hold (or close to it) every time.
I settled on a 348 grain Powerbelt and 80-85 grains BH209 in my T/C Triumph, shoots great. Good luck!

I have a TC Omega that I never thought shot very well with powerbelts. I have ordered a Thor sizing kit and shot 300grain Hornady FPB's and Federal 275 grain Trophy's today. I also picked up some blackhorn 209 and shot 90 grain loads today. Thanks for the tip on targets, I know I can put the front site on a kill shot on an elk at 100 yards or less ranges but trying to work up a load is going to take some thinking. Probably even need glasses.
I wasn't real serious today and it was almost 97 degrees so I just took the ATV out from the house down the ditchbank and shot off the seat.

For the short term, go to Walmart or Costco and try on some cheaters until you find the right correction for your eyes. It'll be somewhat lighter than what you need for reading. My eyes are getting worse every year, but cheaters let me shoot irons pretty well.
What fresh Hell is this?

The Thor bullets should do well in your TC. Bump up your powder charge with bh209 110-120gr. Use CCI or Fed209 primers. Also after each range session use a drill bit( can't remember the specific size) to clean the breech plug hole and remove crud build up.

Thanks for the responses, my Omega's bore is apparently .502 after using the Thor's sizing kit.
