Finally got around to sighting a Mod. 99 .358 re-bore done by JES. Super low Post 1 mill .300 savage doner with lots of rounds on the clock.
To be honest I have heard good and bad about re-bores but I wanted a custom 99 in .358 and I won't do this to a factory .358. The plan was use a semi modded 99 with no collector value.
The rifle cycles .358's flawslessly and smoothly so whatever mod they did to fit the .358 works. Bore was clean.
With a Swarovski 1 x 4 straight tube scope I got a 3 round 1/2" group at 50 yards. I could not be happier.
Re-boring works.
Moving up to 100 yards Sunday.

Is there a 99 with no collector value? And people actually modify 99's? I hadn't heard.

The rifle did well at 100 yards today with Hornady 200 grainers. A bit less than 1 MOA. Rock solid rest on a lead sled and zero wind. I am very happy with this rifle and it exceeds my expectations. In fact it is close to being my most accurate 99.
I bought this rifle from Jess's brother Whyat and figured it would be the best work possible from the shop.
Not much to look at now but she is a keeper.
Can't upload pics and don't know how to do a link.

What is the load used in your 358?
Factory or handload?
I shoot the 200 Silvertip the most from my 358's.

Be careful you don't induce any tang cracks with that heavy thumper 99 in a lead sled!

One fun thing about .358 is that the accuracy requirements are less stringent! Keeps me from obsessing over it as much as my other rifles. Sounds like a really cool rig, enjoy it and I predict you'll love it on game as well.

Savage 99, These are factory Hornady 200gr loads and I see no need to develop a load for this rifle as accurate as it is with these loads. Midway has these loads on sale for $27 a box. I stocked up and will have my brass stash for reloading when done shooting them all. It will be a while.

I bought a 308 rebored to 358 from JES's brother also. Its pretty ugly, but shoots/feeds good. The trigger leaves alot to be desired, but I am completely satisfied with it as a hunter.
