If it was me I'd run a faster twist than that, no downside to it. That is a slow twist for a 7mm caliber cartridge.

why the slow twist barrel on a cal that does its best with a 160 gr bullet or heavier?

The 1980 model Winchester M-70 FW in 7X57 was twisted 1/8 3/4,can't recall reading on the fire anyone having accuracy issues with the 140/150 bullets. Now the long throats is a separate issue.

No cheek piece, fore end tip, iron sights and engraving.

The twist rate is what I want for the 140 gr Nosler & Sierra bullets.

Ken,

Talk to MuleDeer about setting up a 7x57 to shoot 140 grain bullets. I don't recall all the details but he was not completely happy with the custom rifle he had built.

Don't know the twist on his barrel, but I believe he had it reamed for a short throat.

Have two other 7mm Mausers and use 160's in those. This one will be for the 140 gr Nosler Partition and Sierra.

Ken,

Interesting project.

Seems you're convinced eleven twist will shoot 140's better than std. 7x57 twist.

Fill us in on the decision process.

I've got one of those 1980 models. I have yet to find a bullet weight it does not like.
I prefer the 140 Partition, for Deer, though.
