Have a Steyr in 6.5x55. Shoots great, handles fine. Leftys only came in their medium length action so most common are .270/.30-06. Good luck finding one, they show up once in a while on Gunbroker.

I own a right handed Steyr Mannlicher SL in 223. I've owned it new since the early 70's. I've been looking for a lefty for awhile and I've only seen .270/30-06 and some Mauser calibers. I don't think Steyr made any new left handed models past the 1980's. The workmanship, finish, action and hammer forged spiral barrel are great. Mine has the double set triggers and I love them. The one issue I have is with the plastic rotary magazines. They break, are typically hard to find and many times don't feed correctly. New magazines just recently became available and I bought one. Rounds would feed smoothly if I worked the action slowly but would bind if I worked it quickly. The vendor replaced it but the replacement has issues if I load it complete with 5 rounds. If I just put three rounds, it works fine. Its pretty frustrating to deal with.
Tmitch, have you had issues with your magazines?

Not sure about used Sako prices but that is the price range the Steyr's typically advertise and sell for. I know the left handed Sako Hunter or Barvarian models sell new in the $1800 - $2000 range There was a lefty Steyr 270 on GB back in April that had a buy it price of around $950. Instead of buying it immediately, I stupidly had to ask a question. It sold right away. I saw one very nice 30-06 sell recently on GB for around $1850. Cabelas had a couple of leftys and I think they wanted $1700 - $1900 for them. The lower price one was in crappy condition. Unless a special deal comes up, you are going to pay in the $1700 -$1900 range for a thirty year old Steyr.

I have not seen many of these. I have a Sako in 308. I bought it as NIB from a gentleman who claimed to have never fired a round through it. Judging from its condition I believe him. I have yet to fire it. Really need to find the time to do so.

I recall a Sako in 9.3x62 going for a large sum a couple of years ago on GB (I think it was around $3k). My LGS had one in 375H&H about 8 years ago. I believe they were asking $1,800. It sold by the time I came back the following week.

For whatever reason the 7 rem mag seems to bring in the lowest price when compared to other standard cartridges. That one on GB was initially listed at $2k. The price was reduced a day or two ago.

+1 ... There was a LH Sako Mannlicher chambered 9.3x62 on GB last year. Beautiful rifle. Sorely tempted. But, sorely out of my price range...

No I haven't. I bought one extra when I bought the rifle and both have worked, and are still working, without issue. I remember an advertisement or article I read many years ago concerning the plastic (Makrolon?) magazine where the author gave it a good whack with a sledge hammer and it didn't break and functioned afterwards. I haven't tried that, don't think I will.
