From 1994 - 2014 there have been 63 documented lion sightings in Missouri. The MDC requires solid evidence to substantiate a claim of a sighting. Either a documentable picture, DNA evidence, clearly definable tracks for inspection, a dead lion, ect. are required by the investigators.

Interestingly three timber wolves have been killed here in the last decade. DNA says they were all from the upper Midwest packs. I think we could do without either of those two here in the Ozark's. In fact, MDC has trail camera pictures of a lion munching on one of our elk from the elk reintroduction. There has been a lot of time and money invested in our elk herd. We already have a healthy and growing bear population and a wild hog explosion. The hogs are out of control with upward of 10,000+ estimated scattered across the Ozark's and growing rapidly.

yeah hogs fight like mescans.... you can't just fight one you have to fight the whole group.

Why not wolves? Transplant a few hundred from Wyoming to New York and New Jersey.

This is my nephew and what he does for a living. In my humble opinion, this is the only way for a cougar to be considered "good".

Among my friends that hunted with hounds I know of a couple hundred killed in WA Idaho Montana and Oregon.

Any male over 150 is exceptional any female over 120 is exceptional. Those over 175 are very few and far between.

It's statements like this in his theory that destroy his credibility regarding the rest of his agenda.

With that said the hornocker brothers studied them for 20 plus years in Idaho and stated that a 90lb female cougar had no problem taking down a mature prime bull elk during the rut.

I guess Size does not matter for killing power with a mountain lion.

Not around here. Last year a young man was waiting for the high school bus early in the morning when he saw a coyote stalking one of his sheep. The bus was pulling up but he ran into his house grabbed his 7mm mag and took a 200 yard shot. The coyote went into his death tumble, the young man put his rifle back inside and boarded the school bus that was watching and patiently waiting. When he got on everyone was clapping and cheering and the bus driver told him "great shot". No Disneyification of animals in the country.

don't let half of the NY'ers see this thread they will swear up and down that they are already here.

it's amazing how many alleged sightings there are but no one can produce a track.

also knowing my luck the places the greenies would want to throw a mt lion would be here on the tug hill or in the adirondacks... both places with deer but not a TON of deer haha

It's the same agenda as the wolves in the west. The cats will eat a bunch of deer and they'll try to shut down the hunting to feed them. It backfired here. The wolves bred so fast that several states now have hunting seasons for them. We'd prefer to have more elk but at least we can shoot the cussed wolves.
If they introduced them, the 1st thing they'd do is put them on the endangered species list. At that point, you're screwed.

Same here. We have a lot of lions and a lot of deer. They are pretty hard on our bighorn sheep populations, but our local desert bighorns are a lot like domestic sheep--they're born just looking for a place to die.

Those same trail cameras that photograph the mtn lions I posted also photograph plenty of deer, albeit one of the deer does have claw mark scars that run the entire length down the back of her ear.

When we were still down on the ranch, it was not unusual to see deer with lion scars. We would occasionally find them on colts and/or mares that had wintered out in the more remote pastures, as well.

i think smaller game makes up a good portion of their diet as well, don't think they will pass up a rabbit.
