I'm of the opinion that Remington Sevens balance better with 22" barrels than with 18.5" or 20" barrels, assuming that you keep the same contour.

Yes, I am not thinking under 22 inches.A little stouter so it hangs better for off hand is a consideration.

My first 6.5 Creedmoor was a Ruger Hawkeye with a 26" barrel, a model I believe they only made the first year. But it still was pretty light, and since I only used it for open-country hunting I didn't find the barrel length any problem at all. It was VERY accurate with a wide variety of loads, and among other got around 3100 fps with 120-grain Ballistic Tips and 2850 with 140 Berger VLD's, both with published load data. Now and then I kinda wish I hadn't sold it, but as a number of people have recently noted, accurate rifles are easy to find these days....

Accurate 6.5 Creedmoors seem to be the norm, rather than the exception.

I recently ran into a Ruger Hawkeye in 6.5 Creedmoor that is about the most accurate factory rifle I have ever fired, and put some semi customs to shame.
Talk about a tack driver, THAT was one, for sure.

I have 6.5 Creedmoors with 22" barrels from Howa, Ruger, and Marlin XS7s with Savage 11 barrels and Vanguard2s with 24" barrels. The heavier contour RAR-Predator barrels were a little muzzle-heavy in the factory synthetic stock, but balance nicely in the Boyds laminated Heritage style stock. The longer Vanguard2s balance out much better in a McM McM Hunter style stock, making them much more user friendly for me.

I have a Savage 99 and a Sako Forester, both rebarreled to the Creedmoor, and I'm very happy with the 23" length on both. More to do with balance than anything else.

I wanted a quasi- Belly Gun, so I got 25".
It's still light enough to hunt the open stuff and the woods but not as handy as my 270's.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

On a Seven, I'd be running a 20" sporter contour. It makes them balance very nicely, and keeps it short.

I have a Kimber Montana with a 23" Benchmark that's just a tick larger than the factory contour. I could not be happier. It feels great in hand, shoots better than expected and easliy gets over 2900fps with a 139 Scenar using R17.

23" was my compromise length for a hunting 6.5x47. 2b contour. I do not like short barrels on centerfires. I would go 20" or so in a "woods rifle".
