Enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in 1939.
Battlefield commission at Anzio.
DSC at the Battle of Suoi Tre, which I first heard about from one of my drill sergeants who was a newly-arrived private in Vessey's 2-77 FA at the time of the battle.
Chairman of the JCS.
He served as a good role model who never forgot his roots.
