For those of you who've choose the 9mm cartridge, what where your deciding factors?
I don't have a 9mm, yet, but the low cost of reloading components, lower weight polymer handguns that also have low(er)recoil. The higher mag capacity is also nice but not sure that will be selling given political climate.

Easy to shoot accurately
Low cost of ammo compared to some other calibers
Modern bullet technology improves terminal performance
Offered in many platforms
Magazines hold more rounds vs larger calibers

It's a respectable defense caliber. Plenty of cheap ammo in a variety of configurations. Lots of pistol variations from micro carry to range target.

Most common centerfire handgun cartridge in the world. NATO standard. Will always be able to find a plentiful supply.

Even in a 1911 platform it is a good choice, maybe a better choice his day and age.

Because Glock makes a 33 round magazine that fits the 17.

Because the bulk of my formal training was with a 9mm.
Followed by about every other reason listed, except for multiple platforms available. Not really worried about that.

Dealer'd just got it in (92 Beretta "Elite"), didn't have a 9mm, so I took it home. Shoots nice and whete box FMJ 115's are cheap. Makes a great plinker.

one thing i will say, is when you start adding up the cost of componets to roll your own, unless you are casting and have plenty of brass, it's often just easier to find loaded ammo.

Plus, the advent of new bullet construction that makes the 9mm (IMHO) more effective than before tipped me over.. And the politicians can KMA..

The deciding factors for me were the smaller size of the carry pistols combined with lighter recoil for faster follow up shots. I still think placement is the most important factor in shooting with any caliber but having today’s good ammo sure don’t hurt. The low cost and plentiful ammo wasn’t a factor but is definitely welcome gravy.
