Long time lurker but finally regstered.
Firstly Hi from New Zealand.

I am in the process of having a short barreled / suppressed rifle built for bush hunting. Deer are the target species.
I alreay have a 6.5SAUM and a 6.5TCU but I want something with a shorter barrel which will be OK for shots out to 200 yards.


Do any members have one of these wildcats? If so how have you found it

I don't have experience with a 375 wsm, but plenty with the faster 375's. To me, there are very few expanding bullets designed for lower velocities that a short barreled 375 wsm would have. Maybe you're going to use cast? I don't mean to discourage you, but if I was looking to use expanding bullets for deer with a short barreled rifle, I would look to the 358 win.

358 WSM would be interesting. Might be more bullets designed to expand at lower velocity. May not gain much performance over a 35 Whelan, but you get it in a shorter action.

I'm planning on using heavy cast, gas checked HP bullets at subsonic velocities for quiet hunting and 235 TSX or Speer Hot Cores in the same weight for 100 to 300m.

Should be short, light (hoping for 7lbs or less) and quiet.
