Heard from an optics company that the VX6 is getting the axe, I'm assuming that's why we're seeing sales on them lately. What is replacing it?

Thrilled with mine. Good scope priced in a nice niche.

Doubtful it's the entire line. They just recently added more models to that lineup.

I was told it was replacing the vx3 as the mainstay.

I was told it was replacing the vx3 as the mainstay. That would be great, especially if they get the pricing of the VX6 down to where the VX3 was.

That won't happen either. If they make junk that is warrantied, it will cost them way too much in the long run. If they make entry level scopes that don't carry their full warranty, they won't sell. Hence the demise of the Rifleman line.

The fact that they charge $1000 for a new product doesn't mean that their margin gets blown if they cut the price 25%. Ramping up production volume can reduce product part cost by up to 50%. There is probably a lot of meat on the bone in the VX6 to reduce price going forward with no design changes as volumes increase.

Hopefully it is just being updated to the VX-6i, but Leupold has discontinued their high-end scopes without notice several times in the past.
From everything I've heard about the 6's, they are great and have been selling well for that price point. They claim that the price drop from the 3 to the 3i is due to manufacturing technology improvements and the trickle down effect causing parts to become cheaper. It makes sense if you look at computers, cameras, etc. I do hope they wouldn't follow suit of other well-respected companies that have thrown quality out the window to appeal to the bottom feeders.
The Rifleman line never made any sense to me. They were much lower quality than the VX-1's for only $20-$40 less. There was a lot of overlap with the Redfield range as well, which seemed better made for the same price.
Anyone who isn't willing to drop $200 on a decent scope is probably in the $60 Wal-Mart market.

Yeah, the LPS line failed, and had a few very common flaws, that Leupold is covering. They no longer service that line, but replace with VX-6 scopes.

Salemen have been know to peddle rumors to shift a buyer to something else they want to sell, and competitors' motives for dis-information should be obvious.
What fresh Hell is this?

Salesman hasn't seen one in their store for a while, someone comes in and asks for one, "Oh, that's been discontinued." I've heard that numerous times about all kinds of products and then find out it's not true, they just didn't have any and wanted to sell me what they had. I don't know that's the case here. But I never take a sales person's word about something being discontinued until I check other sources. I hope it's not true in this case. I'm planning to get a VX-6 3-18x44mm for a rifle I'm having built.
