A recent check of my favourite and local to me in Canada gun shop turned up a Legendary Arms Works Professional in 35 Whelen, the Whelen being a favourite cartridge and the first one I handloaded back in the 1960s. Now, back to present day and I have an LAW Professional in 28 Nosler, so I am thinking that if I could have all bass covered for my BC hunting with two nearly identical rifles from the same builder that would be awesome.

I think that's a great plan.
And a LAW in 35 Whelen is a pretty rare bird.
I'd jump on it if the price is acceptable.

Scanning the LAW website the 35 Whelen is not listed, a rare bird indeed.

What Twist? would be my first question.
Nice combo for reach in the 28, and closer range thumping in the 35. Same/similar ergos I assume

Interesting that the 35 Whelen is no longer listed. When it was available, it was 1:14" The twist can still be seen on the Closer page. Link below: LAW Closer

I will try and take a picture or two when the Whelen arrives. Next hurdle is what to scope the rifle with. My old Whelen wears a 1.5X5 Leupold seems like forever but I think a 2.5-8X36 might be better served. Any thoughts appreciated and considered on this matter..

I've got a VX3 1.5x5 on my M700 35 Whelen, I'm thinking of the same thing for my 7600 35 Whelen as well. The 2.5x8 would be pretty nice as well. Had one on my 338 for awhile. Good scope. Depending on where and how you set up a Leupold 4 or 6x wouldn't be a bad choice either.

I would probably go with the 2.5-8x36 unless you spend most of your time in dense cover. I would trow the VX2 2-7x33 in the mix too.

I think load work with the new Whelen will be interesting because I have always been careful to avoid ' tipping the can ' mainly because of the age of the old gun. However, with the newer powders, newer rifle, the old cartridge could probably be made a bit more lively, within reason of course.
