Hi: Just got a Zkk 458 win mag. The action is so long I am thinking about making it a .458 lott. Has any one on here done this and if so how is the lott with heavy and light cast bullets? I have been told that the .458win has poor accuracy with cast. Thank You for any help Regards Dan

I am currently doing a 458 Lott on a CZ 550. From the reports I have read, the action actually feeds better with the Lott case than the 458 WM case. You should not have any problem converting your 602.

With regards to cast projectiles, I have a collegue who has tried them in his 602 action 458 and the were not accurate in his gun -he gave up on them eventually.

gunbug,

I did this conversion on an older BKK 602 a few years ago for basically the same reason. I don't have any experience with lighter cast bullets but I did cast some nose pour paper patch bullets that weighed 540 gr. as cast. I quenched them in cold water. They were terrific when loaded to about 1900 FPS which yielded somewhere around 4500 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. If I shot them off sticks while standing I could usually get some decent cloverleafs at 50 yards and 2" at 100 yards. I didn't think I needed more than that. It knocked the bajeebers out of elk.

The rails and ramp had to be re-worked but it didn't take long. It was well worth it as far as I was concerned.

Regards.

One thing I noticed when doing reviews with the BRNO/CZ in .458 was the same loads I developed in my 22 inch barreled Model 70's shot a lot faster in the CZ version with the 25 inch barrel.

Sometimes loads more than 100-150 fps faster with rounds from the same batch.
