Seen some today in 32 (pistol) and 25-20.

The 25-20 was in the red and yellow box. $125

The 32 was in a smaller box with a pic of a bullet on it. $250

What is the rarest one out there??

Thank you,
RAS

Oh, there was 22 Hornet there as well. Forgot the price.

Never collected the stuff.

Have red and yellow boxes of 250, 300 and 30-30 that I just picked up with some guns over the course of time. Didnt buy them.

John,

There are a few boxes of 22HP there as well. The shop is near Romeo. Just opened last week. They have a bunch of Savage pistols.

They are on Old Van Dyke just south of Romeo.

Place is:

Andy's Military and Sporting Collectibles
66800 Van Dyke
Washington, MI 48095

586-281-3347

Lots of Savage ammo. A guy called me about it and told me that one of them is super rare. I think it is that pistol ammo.

I dont collect the stuff.

Rick,

Just like those. Thanks.

I should have snapped a pic.

I wouldn't mind a box of those .25-20's. I got a .25-20 in which it would be fun to shoot them in. grin

Gnoahhh, you can tell a real rifle loonie when it's the other way around--he's got a box of rare ctgs. and buys the rifle to shoot them all up!

That's how I know what rifle to look for next. I have 3 boxes of vintage 32-40, so you know what I'm looking for, Joe.

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

The same collector rules apply to ammo just like rifles.
Assuming Savage brand;
Which box variation is it?
What is condition of the box?
Is it full of original ammo?
UMC, Winchester, Peters, Remington, others made Savage caliber ammo also. Same collector questions apply, just another manufacturer.

Interestingly, I understand UMC made the first Savage 303 ammo. SRA head stamp. This is probably one of the rarest Savage ammo collectibles.

The 32 auto and 25-20 are both desirable and from the approximate same time period ~1905-1915 +/-.
I've seen 32 auto from $150-400 and up depending upon condition.
Not sure about 25-20.
Part of the value would depend upon how much of each was manufactured also. Not even sure that info is available, but one can guess based on time period of use. Lot or a little.

There are books available and some online info that can help identify a particular variation and also time period. Some include ballpark value. Ammo is yet another branch of Savage collectibles.

It's one of those things where if you do some homework ahead of time, you can strike when the iron is hot.

The uncatalogued ones are best. McNally taught me that.
