Okay.. gonna admit this isn't mine (but boy do I wish it was!). It does live near me tho. Figured some of y'all might like to see it.

Quote
This Winchester Model 1876 Deluxe Sporting Rifle is factory engraved on the cartridge lifter with the following: "Judge E. S. Dundy, Falls City, Neb."

Judge Dundy was the presiding judge in the trial of the Ponca leader Standing Bear and made the landmark ruling that Indians were persons under the law. Winchester records indicate that this rifle was shipped from the warehouse on April 10, 1879, twenty days before the start of the trial.

Rem m25R 25-20, 1928 year of production. Only 5-6,000 made in this carbine configuration. It's a fun little gun, 4.5lbs, 17.5" barrel, but not much use beyond 70 yards or so for me due to the sights. The front bead covers around 9 MOA.

Is that a 300? I have one that could be a twin, only in a takedown model. Can't tell by your picture.

Perchbelly stock indicates mfr date between 1906 and 1917'ish, so won't be a 300 Savage which came out in 1921. Nice 1899A, love them perchbelly stocks.

A takedown 1899A from 1907 and chambered in 32-40.

No, it is a 303. I inherited from my grandfather and plan to carry it this year. Not a takedown. According to the information I received it is a 1899A built in 1914.

Gotta take some pictures! I have a couple cool old Savages, an 1895 octagon barrel, and an early 250/3000 special order, delivered to J. DeP Lynch, corporate secretary of Savage at the time. Calhoun has photos of both from Savagefests, but for some reason I don't have a decent photo of either one.

I can see the difference now. I'll have to pull it out of the safe tonite. Mine is actually 30's vintage I'm pretty sure.

The 1899A became the 99A in 1921 and continued to be made up to... 1937? It was chambered for the 300 Savage during the 20's and 30's, but they aren't very common in 300. 303, 30-30 are most common.

Seems like I did a serial number search when I inherited it. I'll have to check.

That fella and that rifle look about suited for one another.
Something tells me he knows how to shoot it.
