A buddy of mine said the easiest most cost effective way, since all Tikka actions are the same length would be to buy a 7mag and load a medium velocity load and enjoy the extra 2" barrel.
It seems that 7mag is not cool right now and plenty are available at a reasonable price.

That's a good and accurate way to look at it. No down side really and proper headstamp brass is much easier to find.
Been lookng at doing the "soft" 7RMg approach if my LGS will ever sell my 300Whizzum Classic Fwt...just wonderin' and never heard this ? addressed..."can the SAAMI appv'd 7RMg be downloaded to 280'ish MV's easily & stil retain good T3 level hunting accuracy?" ....I would think the bonus here is the 24" factory barrel if that is important to you.
I'm told it ought to be easypeasy to ream a 7-08 T3 into a 280, change the bolt stop and magmazine to fit...and call it an overgrown 270 even in a T3's 22" barrel and pickup ??? hunnert fps in the same boolits over the 7-08...OR do you get close enough increases in MV's by doing a 7-08 Ackley in a 22" barrel instead? Just waiting for whenever the Whizzum sends some mailbox money home....and probably flip a coin for a direction to take right now. Ron

That one actually replaced a Cooper in the same caliber after Cooper pretty much refused to cooperate on left hand all weather guns. So, they lost a customer
