I know there's a thread around here but darned if I can find it.

I need a go-to 180gr. AB load for a Remmie 700 '06 for my Dad.

I have 180 AB's and 180 IB's, plenty of brass, CCI & Winchester primers. And the following powders:

Ramshot Tac, Big Game, Hunter, and Magnum
H4350, H4831
H414 (*aka, 760)

I won't have any real time to do any load dev...pretty much resight Dad's '06 and head out for some huntin'.

I'm looking for a "known" load. I was thinking of dropping 55.0 of H414 behind the 180AB and just calling it good.

Thoughts?

I'm using 58.0 grains of H4350 with 180 grain Sierra Pro Hunters and Winchester WLR primers. You really can't beat H4350 in the 30/06. If you're not going to work up your load, I would go with 57.5 grains of H4350. I went up to 58.5 grains and had no signs of pressure but went with 58.0 since it was slightly more accurate, and velocity was still plenty at 2800 fps.

My Husqvarna prefers 55 grains of H-414 with a 180 Hornady SP to any other powder I've tried. Never have used the 180 AB but, would be surprised if it didn't do as well.

I have both a winchester 70 and a remington 700 both in 3006. The winchester takes about one grain more of powder to equal the pressure and velocity of the remington. In my remington I use 57.5 of H4350 with a 165, and it is max pressure. I use 55 H4350 with the 180, and it is close to max in my remington 700. 57.5 of H4350 and 180 is maximum on the hodgdon site. If your gun is bored like mine, 57.5 of H4350 with a 180 would be too hot. . Hope this helps.

Usually I use around 58 grains of Hunter with 180's in the .30-06 these days, which has shot extremely well in several rifles at around 2800 fps. But have also had good luck with H4350, H4831 and any other powder in that general burn-rate range, along with IMR4895. Loading 180's in the .30-06 isn't rocket science, unless of course the handloader is a rifle loony.

I use Hunter as per John's recommendation a few years ago. My old go to load, the same thing I'd load for friends if they needed a handful of ammo for they '06s, was 60.0 grains of H4831. It isn't fast, it isn't hot, but it shoots well reliably in many rifles and very, very well in some.

56.0 grains of Hunter is wickedly accurate in my pre-64 Fwt. with 180 Partitions.

I've found recent batches of H4831SC a little slow for the 30-06 and 180g bullets, and even with max loads cannot get much more than about 2550fps from my 23.5" bbl.

57g of your H4350 and your 180g bullets is where I'd load if you don't have time to test. Should shoot nicely, somewhere in that 2700-2800fps range.

Exactly the same here except with the 180 Accubond.

56gr H-4350 F-210 primers 180gr Interlocks or Partitions and I get right at 2700 in my 22" barreled Safari Grade and MOA.

My 06's like IMR4350 and H4895 -- I mainly shoot Hornady Interlocks - 180 grain flat base and boat tail. Flat base is more accurate.

I'm planning on switching all my IMR4350 loads to H4350 as I hunt in temperatures that vary often and considerably.

I figure if I am going with a lighter bullet, I'll go with a smaller cartridge. (280, 270, or 25-06)

I prefer classic.

Hornady 180 flat base I/L over 57.0 grains H-4350. Works with Partitions as well.
I went up to 58 grains during development. The load with 57.0 grains was easily the most accurate in my my favorite '06 so I went with that one.

It is also reasonably to very accurate in the seven other '06 rifles

that are used with the load.
