If you don't get a refund, they can't make you pay the penalty. No one should EVER strive get a refund.

Holy sh-t! That could put a kid through school. Eight or ten families should get together and simply hire their own doctor. Being that it's required, one should not have to pay taxes on those funds.

And I like to think the process through.
Nonpayment of the penalty means they grab your refund.
No refund after a period of time means they place a tax lien against your assets to collect their penalty plus interest.

Anyone with any kinds of assets, I just don't see how you roll the dice and go without insurance. So as expensive as it is for us, not sure there is another option. I'll look into that Christian plan a bit too. This is the HMO plan with HSA attached to it and it is one of two options for us. Both within $500 a year of each other.

Since there is no cap on these increases, barring some kind of change, I can easily see these figures going to $25,000 to $30,000 for a family of 4. And SCOTUS says its mandatory. Amerika. Once they control healthcare, they control you.

It's definitely affordable for those who don't pay for it.

I got this note last week - Typical HR mumbo-jumbo, but after research boils down to ye olde "more money, less quality."

This I think is the key, and why they are sticking it to the small business/self-employed so hard.

The new .GOV does not like the independent/self-sufficient person and must find a way to latch them on to the .GOV teat.

In my opinion, health issues caused by lifestyle choices (smoking, drinking, alternative lifestyles, substance abuse including food...etc) should not be subsidized by the .gov/taxpayers.

That's BS.

Even Dr.s end up working for the hospital, so they can afford liability insurance.

I know.

That's why the whole notion is just wrong, in a nation of epidemic substance abuse.

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

The entire premise of "health" care is a sham. It's sick care at best, largely self-inflicted.

Its not largely self inflicted IMHO. The majority of it is driven of heredity.

In retirement, as whilst working, my company funded 80% of my health care cost. This year, retired, I pay $440/month for the family. Last year was a bit less.

After 24 years of military both active and reserve I get free Tricare. I pay 0 premiums and $3000 a year deductible. I only hope it stays this way for 3 more years until I am on Medicare. I then use the Tricare as my prescription medicine and supplement.

I guess it was worth it after all.

They aren't allowed to place a tax lien against you for not paying the penalty.

Again, I'm only talking about what the current law is. Anything else, I couldn't care less.

Just got my paperwork today for self coverage, 78% increase from 2016 to 2017.

Premiums: ($383/month)$4607/year to ($683/month)$8204/year, for less coverage than I had 5 years ago.

If Max Out of pocket stays the same, which it won't, that's a minimum of $15,054 before insurance actually kicks in...

Only 1 insurer covers my county so it's this or nothing.
