I killed an average 5x5 north of Meeker second season, hunting was hot and slow. In talking to the outfitter today hunting was still slow.

awesome good job on the bull. I figured the weather would make it pretty hard.

Just got back from that area for Third season. All the elk taken from the outfitter in Area 12 were taken high. I saw four cows and no bulls low. Spoke with several other hunters around the area and very few elk were taken low. It seems those that were taken were above 9,500 feet. It was still beautiful and if I had not injured my knee I would still be there. Fourth season looks like the best opportunity this year. It was cool in the morning and hot in the afternoon. The guys hunting high report seeing many bulls and cows in small herds.

We were hunting at 6300', I saw several huge bulls that were at least 1100 yards away up a steep hill with no cover to hide in for a stalk! I hunted deer in 3/301 (6 and 7 road) a couple of years ago, we got about 4" of snow and it was cold, windy and nasty, we did not see any elk. Good luck.

Just got home from 3/301 on Saturday. We did not see any elk out in the field and only saw four cow elk at the meat processor. There was reportedly a herd of 700 that crossed over Hwy 13 on 11/3, but then they turned into ghosts. The locals are reporting a very slow season. Temps were 27-30 first thing in the morning, warming up to the 60's during the day. Not conducive to hunting elk, but I understand that there is a cold front moving in on Thursday with a chance of snow.

My hunting pard and I considered ourselves lucky to have tagged out on mule deer. We shot the first two bucks that we saw, both 4x4's.

During 3rd Rifle we saw about 200 elk in Unit 4, another 100 or so in Unit 12/23/24. Saw exactly one on public land where we were hunting but it was too far away for a shot and by the time we got there it was long gone. Dry and warm with temps in the high 60's during 3rd rifle. We hunted from 7,000 feet to over 11,000 feet.

Jeanee of Bar-H said they were getting animals around Salt Park. Couldn't get there because it is a 3 hour horse ride and we were on foot.

Very few animals being taken compared to other years. No animals on the migration routes.

Coyote Hunter, next time you are at Jeanne's during 3rd season, ask for me.(Ray) I was there and usually am during third. One of her hunters from the cabin got one but they got it off Wilson Mesa. The tent hunters on Wilson Mesa all got at least one. The guys over at Horse Park also all got at least one. One was also taken close to Thormburg on Three Points. Everyone I saw taken was taken above 9,500 feet. Sorry I missed meeting you.
